This time of year the Cascara has ripening berries that a great variety of birds enjoy. We have been watching the tree from our terrace. A few days ago we saw a Western Tanager, a Cedar Waxwing and a varied thrush all in the tree at once. Today I set out to get at least a record shot of the Tanager and here he is.
And the black berries.
Cascara bark was formerly widely used by First Nations and settlers to make a laxative.
